Simply Bball - Point Guards

So if you know me, you know I love basketball and that my #1 and only team is the Lakers. I was watching the Knicks game last night (certainly not by choice...I'm not a Knicks fan) but as I watched Lin play, I decided to come up with my favorite point guards.

*This isn't in any particular order*

Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose is the greatest point guard in the game since Majic Johnson... well that's what they say. Now here is a guy who knows what his strengths are. He has a Jordan type take-it-to-the-basket ethic. He knows how to work the perimeter. He has ambidextrous skill and power in the paint (argue that all you want). He's not a one dimensional guy which he shouldn't be. He doesn't have a great court vision like Rondo but give him time. With Rose's intangible skills, I bet he'll make it into the Hall of Fame point guard in a couple years. Once again just give him time.

Rajon Rondo
Playing for the Boston Celtics, this dude right here is only 6 ft 1... kinda short if you ask me. Why I chose him as one of the best point guards? He's a solid decision maker..point blank. He doesn't second guess himself.. he just shoots. He's a great rebounder with beautiful transitions. Unfortunately, he's underrated. I don't know why.. dude has such great court vision. Maybe it's because he's so unselfish and is willing to pass the ball to any of his teammates.
Critics say his flaw is an inconsistent jump shot... oh come on... he's a point guard... It's not about making shots, it's about taking the shots you can make.

Chris Paul
Now playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Chris Paul is still a force to be reckoned with. Paul is also a true point guard who looks to pass the ball first (unlike Derrick Rose). He is an excellent defensive rebounder. He's a great shooter and definitely finishes in the paint. I love watching him play. To sum up what I just said... He's the definition of a franchise point guard - elite shooter, elite passer and a tenacious ball winner.

Now I just gotta keep my eye on Lin for another year.

Hair Braiding

As I've stated before in a previous blog, I braid people's hair on the side. So I think I'll share some of the braid ups I've done on my clients through the years. Enjoy. Sorry I couldn't post all the styles up but not everyone likes their pics posted :)

My Hair Rules

Here are my hair rules that I live by... Enjoy

My Hair Rule #10 - Learn your hair. Be honest with your stylist about all the drama (chemical processes such as relaxers, color, etc) your hair has went through.

My Hair Rule #9 - Don't jump from stylist to stylist to stylist. Everyone's hands weren't meant to be in your hair. That includes your friends as well #truth

My Hair Rule #8 - Your kitchen is filled with great stuff for your hair... such as avocado, olive oil, banana, honey...

My Hair Rule #7 - Love your hair through all its stages and it will love you back..... Okay I'm lying…You’re entitled to have your tantrum mood moments. I have mine once every 2 months or maybe more... Just ask my bf

My Hair Rule #6 - Get your ends trimmed! Just because your hair is natural doesn’t mean you won't get split ends. Them suckas would have you lose 3 inches in a minute

My Hair Rule #4 - Every product ain't for everybody. Don't be a product junkie. Find what works for you and stick with it #thtsallimsayin

My Hair Rule #3 - Condition, condition, condition! Natural hair can't be over conditioned. Leave in conditioner with added oils is my bff

My Hair Rule #2 - You don't need a towel to dry your hair. That cotton don't play baby. Just squeeze the excess water out of your hair n air dry for a few minutes

My Hair Rule #1 - Treat your hair like your favorite cashmere sweater!!!

I did crochet braids on my hair

My Hair Regime

Hey Beautiful/handsome people

For those of you who wanted to know, I do have a hair regime that I don't completely stick to just because I'm lazy at times but I'll share it anyways

  • I pre poo using coconut oil and part my hair into sections more or less

  • I wash hair with Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo (LOVE this product) - **I wash my hair once a week like clockwork...if I don't my face starts breaking out** Oh if I'm out of Shea Moisture then I use Creme of Nature Sunflower & Coconut Conditioning Shampoo

  • Next I condition with Honey Suckle Rose Conditioner from Aubrey Organics. Love the fact that it gives me that slip! (the Shea Moisture Conditioner doesn't work for me)

  • I deep condition with my home made shea butter mix. Leave it in for an hour then rinse

  • Lastly, I take my Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and do my twists. I usually apply coconut oil to my ends.

I'm Back

Hey guys... so I'm one year away from graduating with my BA in Psychology from St. John's University. No my career goal isn't to be a teacher, or a psychologist or anything of that nature. My goal is to be a cosmetologist... salon owner to be exact. Weird isn't it? I guess the degree is my back-up plan or rather yet something to pay the bills while I'm enrolled in beauty school.

Lol or you never know my beauty clients just may come to me to be counseled. In the mean time though, I'll be finishing up this degree and braiding people's hair on the side. Don't worry I'll post a few pics of the styles I've done.

P.S. I do love working with kids though, as I have been doing it all my life, but it's not my #1 passion

But my degree won't go to waste...I still plan to work with youths but not in the same setting... Don't worry, you'll see what I'm talking about sooner or later...

Stay tuned
